1.    Call for Application

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is hereby informing the interested Tanzanians to apply scholarship offer under the  World Bank and/or Asian Development Bank (ADB)  and Government of Japan under JICA /MEXT in  Master’s Program in Economic and Public Policy (PEPP) offered at the University of Tsukuba, Japan  for the Academic year 2025-2027. 2.    Application Requirements

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship, you must fulfil the requirements listed in Parts I and II.

Part I: For all applicants

To apply to Program in Economic and Public Policy (PEPP) must:

  1. Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent and have completed 16 years of school education (up to undergraduate level); 
  2. A strong background in economics and associated quantitative tools (linear algebra, calculus and basic statistics) is highly recommended;
  1. Note: Those applicants who have completed their university education in countries where formal schooling lasts less than 16 years, who are at least 22 years old, and who have spent at least one year in a research or similar institution, may qualify to apply by filling out and submitting the provided form (Certificate of Research Activities);
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written English communication skills by submitting either of the following: Score of standardized test such as IELTS/ TOEFL/ TOEIC or other evidence such as a letter from the university or current working place, as deemed appropriate by the Graduate School; and
  3. Be in good health with respect to the capacity to be a productive scholar for the duration of the Graduate Program, as certified by a medical doctor.

Applicants who are not eligible for scholarships and wish to enroll in PEPP can apply via the PEPP general admission page.

Part II:  To apply for an ADB-JSP scholarship applicant must meet the following criteria: 
      i.         Be a national of an ADB borrowing member and Japanese ODA scholarship eligible country listed here
  1. Gain admission to an approved MA course at an academic institution; 
  2. Hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record;
  3. Have at least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application; 
  4. Have proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies; 
  5. Agree to return and work in his/her home country for at least two (2) years after completion of studies under the Program in order to contribute to its development; 
  6. Be 35 years or younger at the time of application; and
  7. Be in good health.

Finally, ADB–JSP does not sponsor undergraduate studies, distance learning programs, short-term training, conferences, seminars, thesis writing, or research projects.

3.    Application procedures

The application window will be open October 1st November 15th, 2024 for World Bank and/or Asian Development Bank Scholarship and  2nd December 2024-17 January 2025 for scholarship offered by the Government of Japan under JICA /MEXT or self-fund.  

Note that, there is no top-up loan or grant from the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania for candidates who will be offered this Scholarship.
